SARASOTA COUNTY, FL – One driver was killed and another injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Sarasota County Monday morning.
According to WWSB , the accident happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Laurel Road, where traffic was backed up from a previous crash. The Florida Highway Patrol said a man was driving a semi-truck on I-75 south at about 8 a.m. and was unable to stop as he approached the traffic ahead. He ended up colliding with five other vehicles that were in front of him. The semi-truck overturned and the driver, a 46-year-old Port Charlotte resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the other drivers was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.
The southbound lanes of I-75 were shut down while the FHP investigated the incident.
