ST. PETERSBURG, FL – An elderly driver was killed when his van was involved in a rollover crash on a highway in St. Petersburg last week, state troopers said.
According to IONTB, the accident happened on Interstate 275 south on Wednesday at about 3:15 p.m. The Florida Highway Patrol said a 77-year-old man was driving in the outside lane of I-275 near Gandy Boulevard when he lost control of the van. The vehicle went off the road, hit two concrete light poles and a traffic sign, and then overturned.
The driver, a St. Petersburg resident, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. He was not restrained at the time.
The FHP is investigating the accident.
