The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver took off when the deputy attempted to pull the car over. The FHP said the deputy did not pursue the car because children were spotted inside. The vehicle ended up crashing on U.S. 301 west of the interchange for Interstate 75 at about 12:14 p.m.
Two children in the car, ages 6 and 8, were reported to have been airlifted from the crash scene. No details were released on their conditions.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
