CLEARWATER, FL – Police say a suspected drunk driver was involved in a crash that injured two people in Clearwater on Sunday afternoon.
Clearwater Patch reports 67-year-old Belinda Hood was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla in the area of U.S. 19 and McCormick Drive when she slammed into two other vehicles at about 4:20 p.m. One of the drivers struck was seriously injured while another was treated and released from a local hospital.
Hood, a Dunedin resident, allegedly fled the scene following the accident, authorities said. She was later apprehended at her daughter’s home in Dunedin and now faces multiple charges, including DUI causing serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries. She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
The northbound lanes of US-19 were closed in the area during the investigation into the crash.
People who drive when they are intoxicated represent a threat to themselves and everyone else on the road.
